Family Support Sessions
Raising kids is hard, and raising neurodivergent and/or disabled kids can add extra layers of complexity, mixed messages, and isolation.
Family Support Sessions are here to make the hard parts of daily life feel more doable. This isn’t a parenting class and it isn’t judgment. It’s a collaborative, neurodiversity-affirming space to problem-solve what’s happening at home (and at school), understand the “why” underneath the struggle, and leave with practical strategies you can use right away.
Who Family Support Sessions are For
Family Support Sessions are for caregivers who are thinking:
“We’re already in therapy, but home still feels hard.”
“I don’t have time for one more thing. I need something that actually helps.”
“I’m not looking for generic advice. I need support that fits my child.”
These sessions can be used to supplement your child’s therapy, or as a standalone service.
What Family Support Sessions are (and what they are not)
Family Support Sessions are:
-
1:1 caregiver-focused sessions with an occupational or speech therapist
-
Practical, individualized support for your specific situation
-
Neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed
-
Focused on reducing stress and increasing access at home and in daily routines
A place to ask all of your questions and receive individualized advice, WITHOUT taking away from your child’s direct therapy time
Family Support Sessions are not:
-
A performance review of your parenting
-
A “fix your child” approach
-
Compliance-based behavior plans
-
A substitute for direct therapy services when therapy is clinically indicated
What happens in a session
In a Family Support Session, we’ll focus on one priority area and work together to:
– clarify what’s happening (and what might be driving it)
– identify sensory, regulation, communication, demand, pain, and environmental factors
– build a realistic plan for your family
– create practical tools (scripts, routines, accommodations, visuals) you can try right away
Sessions occur via Zoom or by our clinic’s telehealth platform.
Common topics we can help with
